What to expect

From first call to final payment.

The sequence is the same whether you call or report online. What happens at each step differs by line of business — see the specifics below.

  1. Report the loss

Call 1-800-874-3368 or report online. Have ready, if you can: your policy number, the date and location of the loss, a description of what happened, a police report number if one exists, the other party’s details, and any photographs. We can still find your policy without the number.

  2. An adjuster is assigned

Within four business hours of first notice, a named adjuster is assigned to your claim and contacts you directly — not a queue, not a portal message.

  3. We assess the loss

What this looks like depends on what was damaged: a vehicle inspection and repair estimate, an emergency mitigation crew at a property, or a first appointment with a workers’ comp panel physician.

  4. Payment is issued

Our median first payment on an auto physical damage claim is 4.2 days from report. Property and workers’ compensation timelines vary with the scope of the loss, and your adjuster will tell you what to expect for yours.

  5. The claim is closed

Once repairs are complete, the property is restored, or a return-to-work plan is confirmed, your adjuster closes the claim and sends you a final summary.

By line of business

The specifics differ. The four-hour promise does not.

Personal auto

Towing and a rental are coordinated the same day when your policy includes them. Use any licensed repair shop, including one of ours. A total loss is valued against comparable local listings.

Property & CPP

Emergency mitigation — board-up, water extraction — is approved immediately to stop the loss from growing. Keep receipts and a photographed inventory of damaged property. Business income and spoilage are covered where your policy includes them.

Workers’ compensation

Report an injury within 24 hours. Our nurse triage line is answered around the clock and directs care immediately. Treatment starts with a physician from your panel, and a return-to-work plan begins from the first visit.

Beyond the everyday claim

For the losses that do not wait their turn.

Catastrophe response

After a declared catastrophe across our footprint, mobile claims teams deploy into the affected area. Policyholders there are contacted proactively rather than waiting on hold with everyone else.

Roadside assistance

Where your auto policy includes it, one call arranges a tow, a jump start, a lockout release or a flat-tire change — the same 24-hour line as any other claim.

Ready when you need us

The day you need us is the only day that counts.

Questions

Common claims questions

Anything else? Call 1-800-874-3368 — the claims line, like the claims themselves, does not keep business hours.

Do I need my policy number to report a claim?
No. It helps, but we can find your policy from your name, address or vehicle information.
How will I know who my adjuster is?
They contact you directly, by phone, within four business hours of your first notice of loss, and give you their direct number.
Can I choose my own repair shop?
For auto physical damage, yes. You are never required to use a shop in our network, though we can recommend one if you have not got a preference.
What if I disagree with the settlement?
Talk to your adjuster first — most disagreements are about missing information, not the number itself. If you are still not satisfied, ask to escalate to a claims manager.
Does a workers’ comp claim raise our premium?
Loss control and nurse triage are included on every policy at no extra premium specifically to reduce that risk. Your experience mod reflects your claims history over time, not any single claim.
